Best Anti-Pollution Mask for Bikers in India

by Nirvana Being on Oct 28 2017
We all know that air pollution has severe effects on bikers’ health. The amount of bad air they breathe while on the bike is much more than the person who commutes by walk. Most people think that air pollution is only dirt and smoke but the truth is something else. The real culprit is PM2.5, it’s the fine particulate matter that is about one-thirtieth the diameter of a human hair. These tiny particles are able to penetrate deeply into the respiratory tract, reaching the lungs. When one exposes to these fine particles, it can cause short-term health effects such as eye, nose, throat and lung irritation, coughing, sneezing, runny nose and shortness of breath. Here’s when pollution mask for bike riders come to the rescue. Even if you aren’t familiar with anti-pollution face mask for bikers, read further to learn more about its significance and how these bike pollution masks work. Long exposure to fine particles can even affect lung function and worsen medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease. We all know that condition of air is much worse in India than any other place in the world. That’s why it is highly important to wear the best anti-pollution mask for bikers in India if you are someone who commutes daily by bike. Please don’t get confused by any ordinary mask as they won’t be able to protect you from PM2.5. The only effective anti-pollution mask for bikers in India is an N99 mask which gives protection from particles up to 0.3 microns up to 99%. Do we need a pollution mask in India?

by Prashant Paul on Aug 17 2017
Though there is growing consensus among the scientists that the pollution is emerging as one of the major global problems and should be tackled on the priority, there is little or no effort on the part of the governments to tackle it with a sense of urgency. Mostly it is a knee jerk reaction and the steps taken are rather cosmetic. The result is that the pollution levels are rising with every passing day and people are paying the cost with their health. The diseases caused by inhaling polluted air are on the rise. Indeed it is time for us to take the matter into our own hands and do something about it to protect ourselves. Indeed we need a pollution mask so that at least we can minimize the effect of pollution when we walk out of our homes and straight into the gas chamber that our cities have become. The Air Quality Index (AQI) level is measured for six pollutants that are responsible for ill health. The one pollutant that can really cause a lot of damage to human health is called fine particulate matter, or PM2.5. This pollutant is not easily digestible in the human body and can penetrate deep into our bloodstream. When PM 2.5 level gets too high, it is recommended that individuals should wear a Mask. The World Health Organization has found that the safest dosage of PM2.5 in a 24-hour time period is approximately 25 ug/m3. This is an AQI score of roughly 30. Any more exposure than this in a 24-hour period can lead to serious lung or respiratory issues, and even cancer. Wearing a pollution mask is your only protection against such diseases. Though there are different standards set by different governments and organization, it is generally held that wearing a mask should be recommended when the AQI score exceeds 200, or a PM2.5 concentration of 150 ug/m3. This scale is allowing 6 times more PM2.5 ug/m3 exposure in a 24-hour period than is recommended for healthy standards set by the World Health Organization. In Delhi, the PM 2.5 level is around 400 ug/m3 on normal days in winter! Indeed we need a mask and that too of a good quality which can prevent the PM 2.5 from entering our system. Indeed there are many masks available in the market but most of them are neither tested nor designed to give you protection against the PM 2.5 level. At best they can filter dust and smoke or in some cases bacteria, but do not provide any protection against the PM 2.5 The one pollution mask that is effective and sleekly designed to fit you is Airfic Anti Pollution Mask which is an N99 Mask available in India. It perfectly fit the bill and now they are available in India on our online store nirvanabeing.com. What differentiates them from other products is that they are available in different colors and designs and look better than the plain white industrial looking ones. Vogmask respirators are N-99 rated, which means that they filter an average of 99.978% particulate matter (PM2.5), which is an improvement on N-95 masks. Make sure that you select the ones that are N-99 rated and marked CV; C stands for activated carbon filter which absorbs pollutants like ozone and sulfur dioxide and also filters out unpleasant smells while V means that the model has an exhaust valve which prevents condensation from building up. Vogmask is CE and FPP2R certified, which means it is reusable and washable too. However, there is a word of caution; an anti-pollution mask like N99 Mask should be used carefully if it is to be effective. It is important to ensure that the mask fits well on the face otherwise it will be useless. Also, remember to read the usage instructions carefully.

How to select an effective anti-pollution mask?

by Nirvana Being on Jul 06 2017
We are already aware that the only remaining free resource that we consume in abundance - air – has turned toxic. It is estimated that we smoke 20+ cigatettes per day in Urban India, just by breathing. The most cost effective way to protect ourselves from its ill-effects is an anti-pollution mask. Wearing a mask in India, and especially if you are living in a metro city is no longer an option, but a necessity. Well, all masks are not equal and here are the factors you need to consider to buy a pollution that’s right for you: 1. Filter Since the concentration of carcinogenic ultrafine particles is sky high in urban India – about 10 times the WHO safe level on a good day, we recommend masks with a N99 Filter. The mask also must have an activated carbon filter to filter gases, chemicals and odours. 2. Certification Ensure that the mask that you buy is certified by CE as a Personal Protective Equipment. We recommend EN 149:2001+A1:2009 FFP2 R certification at a minimum. FFP2 is simply a class of respirator for a level of wearer protection. FFP2 implies that the mask reduces the wearer’s exposure to airborne particles by a factor of 10. CLASS FILTER PENETRATION LIMIT (at 95L/min air flow) INWARD LEAKAGE FFP2 Filters at least 94% of airborne particles <8% The R in FFP2 R stands for reusable and certifies the non-disposable and long life feature of the mask. A lot of masks mention conforms to and similar vague language – the mask should have a CE certification mark on the physical surface. 3. Functionality Your search for a perfect mask should include these 3 important factors: validity, effectiveness, and comfort. An ideal mask should last up to 4 months with all its effectiveness. Prefer a mask which is washable and reusable for better comfort and value for money. The R in the CE certification FFP2 R stands for reusability. 4. Fit Possibly the most important factor in selecting a mask. A mask that is ill-fitting will leak air and is practically useless. Make sure that you buy a mask that seals your face completely – so all the air you inhale is filtered. 5. Exhale Valves We recommend pollution masks with an exhale valve since this makes the mask more breathable. Those engaged in activity or using the mask for exercise should consider a mask with 2 exhale valves for added breathability. 6. Style/Fashion Maybe a lesser consideration, however, you are more likely to protect yourself for longer periods, if the mask is stylish and fashionable.
